new Solid gaming pc needed. what parts?

Hi all. So its time for a new comp, my old one is 7 years old. The only part that I will be carrying over is this graphics card:

-MSI GeForce GTX 960 DirectX 12 GTX 960 GAMING 2G LE 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card

-I also have this case that if you say its ok, I will re use. APEVIA X-Plorer ATXB8KLW-AL Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I will upgrade the card in about 2 years or so, but I want a computer that can handle much more then this card. I want the latest technology, however, I know there is a point where you start to pay a premium for the best and newest, I want parts that are just bellow this. I know prices drop dramatically in only a few months to a year. Im looking for the best performance possible, without gouging my wallet on un necessary performance.. but dont get me wrong, I want a nice PC. And I also need a monitor. Nothing huge that will blind me with light, but give me good quality.. But if I can get alot better PC parts without the monitor, I will continue to use the one I have. buts its a shitty AcerX203H. Also, I dont need tons of space, I just want to have a few games on it.

Im not looking to be "spoon fed" here.. I really know nothing about building custom comps, and im just looking for direction. I can start to nit pick and research once I have a clue and a starting point. I want to get it soon and not spend the next month learning how to build a comp so I can do a sub par job. I need help

If you know what parts would be good for this build, that would be great. Links are also appreciated.

*my budget is up to $1000. If you suggest I raise the budget a little bit I can, but only if its worth it.

I dont know where else to go, I hope you guys can help! Thank you!

With that budget a ryzen 5 is probably your best bet.
Pair that up with a A350 motherboard, and 16gb of ddr4 ram.
Depending on the gpu u will upgrade to, you will need somewhere between a 600-750W psu.... id probably recommend a 800-850W for future proofing incase you want to go heavy class gpu.

Remember in gaming builds, its GPU first, then CPU.
SSD's make a hugh difference in load times for games, however when you compare SSD to SSD u want capacity more then speed.
a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe drive should be your boot/OS drive as that will make a hugh improvement in windows boot time.

But from here i suggest you look at:

and select some parts and let us know what u feel comfortable with.
Then we can help you tweak your build, and make some adjustments to it, so you can learn or pass that info down to others if and when u need to build another one.

THANK YOU. This helped alot in getting me started. I even found a little build guide on that site you showed me.

How is this?: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/roadkill0000/saved/#view=fpRmGX

Im not sure about the monitor, I dont want anything too big or too small.
Also, this is for utilizing my MSI GeForce GTX 960 DirectX 12 GTX 960 GAMING 2G LE 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card
and re using my case, which I hope is compatible: APEVIA X-Plorer ATXB8KLW-AL Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Is there anything on this list I could do with less/more? Thanks again!

the parts look good...
the case will work but its a bit old.
Modern cases will allow things like USB3.0 headers and wire management which makes your build a lot easier and cleaner.
Also they come with zipties and other sorts to help tie cables down and not make it look like a spider nest inside your PC with wires.

You may want to ask in our display section about monitor advice.

i believe there should be better ones for simular price.

For sure you dont need such high power PSU.
Also, for a Ryzen 7 I would recommend a X370 has it usually comes with better VRMs, get the Killer which has really good price for the features.
