More like the police figured business as usual with the public at large that anyone could be that stupid.

I guess they are awaiting the results from the Tox. lab to see what he was high on, I'm guessing bath salts or a meth binge..

Dad says he didn't give permission for the teen to take the car, me thinks that since he's 18 and broke Dad would rather have the inevitable lawsuits filed against the kid, I doubt the car was insured enough to cover all the damage he did..

WTF???

From page two of the article:

"According to his Facebook profile, Kelley is a self-described “brony.”

According to the website whatisabrony.com, a brony is a fan of the animated series — based on Hasbro’s My Little Pony toys — “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.” Bronies are “outside the target demographic of little girls,” according to the website."

I hope not, it's ridiculous what happened in the Texas case when a drunk 16 year old wound up killing 4 people and got 10 years probation and no jail time at all. Oh, he has to go to court ordered rehab paid for by the parents, if I were a family member of one of those that got killed by this moron I'd be pissed..
http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/05/us/texas-affluenza-teen/

His parents will only have to pay a fraction of his rehab costs...the taxpayers will pick up the rest.

http://www.myfoxdfw.com/story/25225319/ethan-couchs-parents-will-pay-a-fraction-of-rehab-cost

During Friday's hearing, the state-run facility said that Couch's care will cost $715 per day. It recommended his parents be ordered to pay a maximum of $1,170 per month - less than two days per month of treatment.

Texas taxpayers will foot the bill for the remaining cost of the care each month.

Bond/Bail are not fines. You get them back when you finally go to court.

However, at court you can be fined for god-knows-how-much money. And sent to jail.
And meet Bubba.

enlighten me oh great one.

Innocent until proven guilty, then you pay the "cost" of guilt if guilty, which is NEVER paid with your bond.

Bond is the insurance that allows that "until proven guilty" part and ultimately costs nothing when all goes as it should. If he skipped punishment at the cost of bail, it also means he paid with his ability to freely utilize his identity in public and is basically on the run for his entire life (loss of freedom adds a lot more "cost" than $5,000).

The cost is part of the sentence, genius.

It's the whole point of being charged with a crime.

To presume someone's innocence until trial requires a degree of insurance that is ultimately supposed to be free. Even if you skip bail you lose a lot more than just your bond and, thus, that is not nearly "all" it costs.

Bond/Bail are not fines. You get them back when you finally go to court.

Only if you come up with the entire amount. Bail was 46k, so a bail bondsman most likely put up a surety bond, with the client having to pay $4600, non-refundable.

It is always better to go through the pre-trial/trial proceedings from outside of custody. Not only so that you aren't in jail (obvious), but so the judge and possible jury do not see you in an orange jumpsuit behind a cage. That tends to make people form opinions consciously and subconsciously.

The time I appeared in court behind the cage, the judge was an ass. (Couldn't bail out on a probation violation).
