New Smoking law proposal in NY

Talk radio here in Denver is all over this subject. However i can not find any reference to it.

From what I understand, a NY Assemblyman proposed a new law that would make it illegal for a person to smoke in a car with kids in it.

Anybody from NY heard of this? Any links??

I smoke but I believe it is just common sense not to smoke by children in a vehicle.

I clicked on this link thinking they were going to loosen the existing laws a bit, since bars and clubs are losing a lot of business. I guess not....

and the next law after that is no smoking at all in the car, under the pretense of "safety", a la the cell phone law. Just wait folks, they'll try and outlaw it completely anywhere in public someday.

they really aren't losing that much business, when i walk around i see packed bars left and right...

and not smoking in front of children is a given......

yes, that's exactly what my post said. In fact I advocate smoking in cars with children.

Proof positive that democracy will never work because the public at large is too stupid.

A lot of things are not "ok," XZeroII. For example, I think you're pretty low that you don't support lowering all speed limits to 25mph. Think of all the lives that could be saved!

Get a clue, man. Not everything should be a law. Quit sticking your nose in everyone elses' asses.

The big question is, when will smoking in a house with kids be made illegal and considered child abuse?

Teacher in classroom: "by raising your hands, tell me if your parents smoke"
Many kids raise their hands
Teacher in classroom scribbles down names
Teacher in classroom ?ok kids ill be right back"
Teacher runs to principle
Principle gives list to Child protective service.

Later in the evening.

Parents answer a knock at the door.
Standing there is an officer from CPS and issues them a citation for child abuse.


The bottom line is that the Government is getting too much control over our lives. Its almost like the kids are the propety of the Government and the parents are just caregivers.

That's not the point. The point is that laws like this are merely stepping stones to eventually just making smoking illegal altogether. I do not smoke, but I think that these laws are getting ridiculous. My hometown just went through a big fight over smoking. Just a few weeks ago the city passed a resolution to ban smoking completely in all resaurants... which included bars. The sad thing is, they did it without even taking a vote. It's been a big mess and lot of people are very angry.

Any idiot that smokes in the same car as a child should be shot. Children are more susceptable (sp?) to second hand smoke then adults. I don't totally agree with all the no smoking laws that NY has/will.

The positive side is that the wife and I venture out more to bars and restaurants since the smoking ban. It is kind of nice not to come home smelling like ass.

if you don't smoke with kids around, then why do you care??? all its going to affect are the uncaring idiots who smoke with their kids in the car
