New smoker!

Besides, the smoker is going on my wood deck so I'd have to be a fool to put a charcoal smoker on there.

I have charcoal Weber grill and Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker on my wooden deck. The grill I've used for about 13 years and smoker about 5. What's your concern about using charcoal on wooden deck? Fire? How? I've done plenty overnight smokes with my WSM and sleep through the night without ever checking. I run errands and shop while smoking ribs all the time. I don't babysit my smoker. WSM will hold temps in tight range for hours. The wood on my deck is perfect. I have $10 grill mat under my WSM. Before I used old aluminum water heater drain pan.

Where I live is windy as hell and I've got two overly curious little kids. That plus wood deck and hot charcoals could equal disaster.
