only EA would allow something like this to happen.

Sadly that's not the case. Firaxis has a Civilization Facebook game. Brian Reynolds also of Civilization fame and Rise of Nations has Farmville on Facebook.

All might not be lost as Maxis is trying to fill these positions: Online Engineer, Sr. Development Director, Lead Engineer and Graphics Engineer. PlayFish does EA's Facebook games.

Maxis has been VERY consistent with releasing crap these past few years.

I guess everybody's utter surprise at EA's shittyness is, in retrospect, kind of plausible, if you consider other similar things, like the fact that the Allies didn't realize Hitler was a douchebag until the very last minute.

(Yes, I am comparing EA to Hitler. Deal with it.)

Edit: At least we get cities XL 2012 in fall this year.

thank you ea for ruining my hobby

i just dont get it. computer gamers are usually intelligent people, and usually have more money then console gamers. and yet companies like ea shove stupid shit down our throat as if were the same country dumb as the parts of america that dont have any money. makes no sense.

While this is 100% true, the amount of people that fall into the "don't know any better" category vastly outnumbers gamers and as such, they collectively have more money and are much more willing to part with it for games such as this.

Facebook has what, 600 million active users? That's a pretty damn big captive audience. As much as I wish they would release Simcity 5 for the PC, I can't blame them for this. Really, it's a surprise that more companies aren't putting out Facebook games.

Wasn't cities XL really friggin terrible? From what I've seen it was pretty universally hated. Why would you be looking forward to a sequel of such garbage?

Cities XL 2011 isn't that bad, it's just not that good either. Just watch the house to job ratio, and you'll never lose. Expand your city by building a few blocks of houses, then sprinkle in some retail/industry to make jobs. Repeat forever.

Oh well, the SimCity 4 modding community keeps me interested enough in the game.

A new one would be nice, but without Will Wright it would probably suck.

The game would have been decent if it wasn't coded solely for single cores and if it didn't shovle in ram memory like a hungry fat kid strapped onto another hungry fat kid.

The devs promised that theses rookie mistakes would be gone in the next game.

Ya know what?
They may as well try on a medium that actually seems to be working. Traditional PC gaming has been shit for a long time and its due mostly to the fact publishers are convinced they get low sales because of pirating. (Never mind the games suck and are overpriced.) Nope, they have been killing it themselves for a long time, and looking to make easier money.
The internet has proven way more profitable. Just look at WoW. And Web based seems to be a lot more serious as a gaming platform than ever before. I wouldnt be surprised if WoW 2 is web based.

So yeah, why not take a chance on something that actually works? With constant feedback they could theoretically improve the experience on a regular basis and actually make the game good. Isnt that how they do it with TF2 and WoW?

I think the success of TF2 and WoW has more to do with those specific dev houses and not just the online part. Other online games haven't gotten nearly as successful as WoW even though they've tried. TF2 was a pretty stereotypical multiplayer model until just recently, and it's now free to play with a focus on micro-transactions.

sigh .... Bad enough my brother got me to log in to face book due to using it to keep track of invitations for our group canoe trip .... I am not gonna play any fvckin "games" on there too.

SC4 is great, but there are so many damn limitations in the engine, and those of us who like it need something bigger and more complex to play with,

Also there is a "The Sims" game about to be released on facebook soon.

Having a easy way to access hundreds of millions of people to play your game is something they really like.
