New Setup won't power up

I inserted a refurbished board into a friends tower.

P4B 533 VM

Its not turning over. There is a LED to indicate if your AGP card is compatible and thats lighting up correctly as are two led on the on/off breakout panel frontside of the case. But hitting power doesn't do anything, no fans, Hardrive, or post.

I took the board out of the case and tested it on a non conductive surface to make sure contact with the case wasn't shorting it. That produced the same results as when it was in the case.

Have you made sure that the power switch pin is plugged into the correct pins on the MB? If I had your problem, that's what I would think.

That's what I would try first.... 🙂

Could be any number of things. First I would just make sure that your connections are made (the switch connections on the mobo and the main power connection). If that doesnt do it than take out everything but the essentials (those being one stick of ram, the cpu, and the video card) and try to start it again. If that doesn't do it then either the switch to the case is broken or the mobo is dead. You can use a piece of wire to short the power on switch connection if you have to.

Your were correct, the power switch was dead in some form. Using a bit of wire stripped from an ata cable started it.

Where can I get a replacement for the power i/o though?
