Saw a new task have now been added to the Taskbase, #1478: "Implement Opteron mysql db for BOINC".
There's no time-line, and no mentioning if got the hardware yet or not, and neither if a problem with linux have been solved... But anyway, the new database-setup seems to be this:
New server: Sun V40 Opteron:
CPU: 2x Opteron 844. (1.8 GHz, max 4 cpu's)
RAM: 8 GB. (max 8 GB/cpu)
Internal Disk: ? (not listed, max 6 scsi-disks)
External Disk: 3510 RAID-array, 10k or 15k SCSI-disks; max 876 GB unconfigured if 15k or 1.72 TB if 10k. (unknown of disk-setup used by seti)
Software:
OS: Linux 64 bit RH 9(?)
Mysql: Rel 4.0.22 64bit for Opteron/Linux (perhaps 4.1.x may be used in Jan 05)
Replication database-server:
koloth, connected to D1000 - 10k SCSI-disks having only software-based RAID, max 436 GB.
According to the SETI@home status-page, koloth is a Sun D220R (2 x 440MHz Sparc, 1 GB RAM) and is atleast for the moment running the file_deleter.
Currently the SETI@home for BOINC database is apparently 70 GB, so will take some time to configure new server...
BTW, the current database-setup is using software-RAID, so hopefully getting a new, fast server & accompanying hardware-raid will be fast enough to handle 500k more users so can kill-off "classic".
