Looks cool, but it's slooooooow.

I much prefer the simple, fast interface of Google.

A search engine that requires a manual to understand it properly??

It's also very slow, I prefer google and alltheweb.

I like it, it's a cool concept. It lets you navigate easily for what you need, instead of bringing up a big list of crap.

excellent site.

I am a diehard google fan. BUT i also know that the major problem with search engines is that they generate lists and lists are hard for people to quickly digest.

Google succeeds because they are good at getting the most relevant sites up at the top of the list where the user is most likely to see them. However, there are times when I find myself sifting through a list of hits for one reason or the other. The new site needs some revisions BUT the concept map is very very cool and useful because it translates a list into something the human visual system can make sense of.

while it's pleasant to look at, i'm more interested in the results.

:)

nice site though.

oh yeah... and it picks up my site... while google doesn't. :( i've requested to be added to google list long time ago... but nothing has been done to it. :(

Nice to look at if I want to make a game out of searching but I prefer the standard search results like Google and the other majors. When I'm searching I want to find something fast and this makes you work too much to find information. Also, it's not really a new search engine, it's just compiling results from other search engines and directories.

It's pretty cool to play around with but I won't be using it for searching; I'll stick with Google and All The Web. I used to search with Alta Vista mostly but their relevancy went down the tubes about a year ago.

To get listed in Google, you have to have at least one site pointing to you or they won't rank your site. It doesn't matter how many links you have pointing out from your site, you need to get links pointing to your site; at least one or two.

If you can get your site listed in the Open Directory Project (dmoz.org), Google places a lot of relevance on their listings. A listing in OPD pretty much guarantees being ranked in Google. The placement of your ranking in Google will depend upon your content and how many other sites are competing under the same keywords you are using.

Edit: BTW, getting listed in ODP is not particularly easy but it is not that difficult. If you're not familiar, ODP is a directory whose listings are reviewed by human volunteers. All sites submitted are reviewed by the editor in charge of that category and then approved and included or not, it's up to the editor. To get listed, you must first find the proper category for your site and then submit it using the link posted there. Assuming you are in the right category, it can then take days, weeks or months to get listed, depending on how often the editor reviews new sites.

Search engine optimization is one of the primary functions of my job and I too love Google MOST of the time. Google, Teoma, and Vivisimo are my primary search engines. However, one of Google's biggest weakneses is that it's SO heavily link popularity-oriented that you invariably get the same results for various generic permutations of a search unless you use some very specific targeting (which most users are still not sophisticated enough to understand.) I actually prefer the search models Teoma and Vivisimo use, but they're still in the process of building up their indexes and are nowhere near Google's levels.

Visual-based search results like this have been tried before, but none of the ones I've seen have been received all that well. I think if you used visual results systems like this as a COMPONENT of the overall search results listings to help refine and visualize other grouping variations (kind of like Teoma and Vivisiomo do) it would become a much more popular feature.
