New SCSI drive from RMA bad?

I RMA'd an IBM Ultrastar 36Z15 recently, and in return got a Hitachi Ultrastar. As I always do with any SCSI drives I get, I connected this one up and started the system.

The first thing I noticed was that it spun up as soon as I powered on its enclosure, normally the drives don't spin up until the computer they're connected to is turned on. I checked all my connections and they seemed to be fine, so I proceeded into my card's BIOS (an LSI 8953U with LSI BIOS 4.19.00) and did a Format.

The format completed without a problem, so then I went to Verify. It got as far as 8%, then announced that Block 00000000 failed to verify, and did I want to reassign? I said Yes to all, and then got the message Reassign Failed:

Sense Key = 06, ASC = 29, ASCQ = 01

I proceeded into Windows and with Disk Manager made a partition and formatted it. During this format it sounded as if it was stopping and spinning up again several times, but once it was done it produced a typical steady hum. Still wouldn't verify though.

So first of all, is this drive bad enough to warrant an RMA? And second, can I use this drive in an array filled with older Ultrastar 36Z15s, or am I better off with identical drives all around?

Old drive's model number: IC35L036UCPR15-0
New drive's model number: HUS151436VL3800

They're both the same capacity (36.7GB, comes to 35001MB or 34.18GB in Windows) and same spindle speed (15,000rpm) but I haven't compared other specs.

Run one of Hitachi's scan on it. As you may or may not know, Hitachi took over IBM's HD section.
It'll be fine with other drives that have the same capacity and speed.

I was told elsewhere that the error message refers to a power event. Thus I changed the enclosure and the SCA adapter and the drive verified to 100% without error.
