New scanner doesn't work with TWAIN

I just bought a Canon MP610 All-in-one. The scanner works, but not with one software that can only access a scanner thru TWAIN. I was using the same software with my old scanner. But the TWAIN driver does not want to talk to the new scanner in the MP610.

Are TWAIN drivers generic? or are they written for each scanner? I tried googling, but I didn't find my answer.

Thanks in advance.

they'll be different for each scanner, every software I've used interfaces with whatever TWAIN driver is installed in XP, but it's possibly this program has it's own or something. Don't quote me there, but I know TWAIN are model specific.

The Pixma MP610 is a multifunction device - not just a scanner. It may require specific drivers - TWAIN only addresses one function.

Yes, any old TWAIN drivers should be removed (if you aren't using the devices they came with) and then install the new drivers that came with the MP610. TWAIN is a standardized way to access differing devices, so each device will have its own driver. First check the Canon web site for newer drivers - no sense installing old versions.
