I want to buy a 17?? LCD monitor. I have read many reviews and I have noticed that the best manufacturers are Samsung, LG and Hitachi.

However I?ve also noticed that their models (172T , LG-L1710S, CML-174SXW) are almost 7 months old.

1) When Samusung is going to release its latest 17?? TFT ? (173T i suppose)
2) Any known specs (response time mainly)
3) How about LG, Hitachi ?
4) Should I wait or should I buy 172T ? (is there going to be a huge improvement)

1) Dunno
2) Probably 16ms, but with larger screen size.
3) Hitachi/LG, same as above.
4) Buy the CML174. Its better for games than the samsung. There are two CML174s, the CML174SXW, which is white, and the CML174SXWB, which is black.

Welcome to AnandTech.

Samsung was supposed to release two 16ms screens 152x/172x (15"/17"), don't know what happened to them...

Have you looked at the Viewsonic VP171B? It is a very nice monitor, 16ms, no ghosting that I have seen. Mine has no dead pixels as well.

This is one of the endless rumours, that spread and grow stronger on the internet. I read the same rumour about Samsung x-series months ago.

mapas, Hitachi and LG are not the only companies that make 16ms lcds.

I don't know if this helps but my Envision 770-e FlatCRT has an LG tube and it works great.

I believe the french edition of Tom's Hardware are the originators of the specs/pics for the 172X/152X, so I believe it's more than just a rumour. Basically, they were evidently shown off at Cebit 2003 this year but other than that no new information on them or if/when they are supposed to be released. Here's the translated link to the Tom's Hardware Article.

Come to think of it, there was an official press release from Samsung on the X-series, here translated from german on the german Samsung web site

Also, you can find them officially listed as products here. Click on the Cebit 2003 picture, a separate Cebit 2003 window will open, choose "IT Booth" from the top menu, then "View All Products". Scroll down through the products list and you'll find them both listed...

Maybe they decided to show them off prematurely, just to show that they're working on something faster as well, or maybe it was a product release gone bad cause that Tom's Hardware article mentioned the release date to be in April

One more link.... According to this article (translated from chinese), the release date for the 152x was supposed to be late June, while the release date for the 172X is to be expected later this year. So they are obviously both still slated for release sometime this year. Also, there are some more closeup pics in the article...

Hmm...the 193P has 100 better luminocity then the new 192T but still 25ms. There still arent any 19" 16ms on that list...

After IN Optronics and finally before LG, Samsung launches a flagstone LCD 16 ms on its high monitors of range, the 152X and 172X scheduled for April. The other innovation on the office automation screens, it is the progressive passage of contrasts at the rate impressing of 600: 1.

maybe hes talking about AU Optronics.

I saw both of these displays at COMDEX in Las Vegas - However i was told they were just prototypes. It doesnt look like they are 16ms anywhere for that matter. It looks to me like they are replacements for the 192N/172N series. They make the bezel that small so that you can stack a bunch of them together.

JZilla: Hitachi doesnt even make 16ms LCDs. AUO and LG ARE the only companies that make 16ms LCDs.

Anyways, I shot some emails off to my Samsung insiders.. Ill post a response in a few minutes...

Gary: Where did you see information about 193P ???

Kristopher

Kubicki, I know that. I was referring to monitors, and not panels/substrates. Maybe I should have wrote: 16ms monitors. Just didn't seem necessary as mapas was talking about monitors and not panels/substrates.

There is also a 173B/S model. This is getting interesting.

I have read that prad.de article before. They actually have a pretty good forum with lots of user reviews of different monitors.

The 193mp was one of the models displayed on the cebit 2003/itbooth/lcd monitor pop up window. Are all these monitors going to be produced or do some get scrapped?

I am convinced that I should wait till the end of the summer?

Any news from Samsung?

172x seems very nice (I hope the specs are true?)!
I have found a Chineese 152x_catalogue.pdf with specs that mention that it is a 17ms monitor.

I know that Hitachi and LG are not the only manufacturers that produce 16ms LCD monitors but the others use the same panels. I was wondering if I should wait a little to buy a new generation of 16ms monitors (since the AUO panel is almost 7 months old)

Any upcoming LG releases ?

Thanks for all the help?
Elias,
Greece.

Although I like the idea behind the AUO panels (not true 16M color panels, and "16ms MAX" response time), I would perfer a true 16M color 20ms or less panel. TomsH had a nice article about the AUO panels vs the Hyundai panels, but I haven't heard of anyone actually using the Hyundai monitor, so the results are still fairly unknown.

Any word on these Kris?

Hmm, well, it seems now that the 152X is more or less released, and indeed it's listed as 17ms. I'd expect it should still be faster than the AU Optronics panel, though, and better quality too... The japanese Samsung website offers it for sale and it's listed among the LCD monitors at the german Samsung website (unfinished 172X page here ;) ). Btw, the 173V seems to be available for sale on several web sites, but it seems unspectacular in both specs and looks, it's just another budget version in their V-series.
