Just got this monitor it came before the rest of my build so I decided to try it using my old Nvidia 6800. So far, no dead pixels. I read about different panels being shipped A,C etc., I'm not sure how to check which mine is, I cannot find a letter marked anywhere on it, anyone familiar with this?

Also, I come from using mainly CRT's for gaming (100hz when possible) and switching to this 60HZ LCD is giving me eye problems, headaches etc. from looking at the screen. I've read that LCD's are pretty much locked at 60HZ on native resolution is this true? I guess I'm just going to have to get used to it I suppose, is this pretty standard to deal with?

When the rest of my build comes (including a 8800GTS (G92) will there be a noticable difference in colors/clarity/performance in my display over my 6800? I'm having some color/banding/dithering issues and I'm wondering if its because it is an old card, of if i should RMA. And one last thing, I'm guessing its best to run these in DVI and not analog?

Thanks for the help guys haven't been around for awhile just getting back into things, peace.

The picture quality is the same after you adjust them. Don't worry about panels. That was a dumb fad from the get-go.

I have one, and it gave me headaches and eye strain for awhile. What I had to do was turn the brightness down, it's 100% out of the box. And I have to have a lamp on in the room, whereas with my old CRT I wanted it completely dark. The lamp really made the difference for me.

thanks, yea its seems to be displaying eveything okay now. Its not really the brightness, its just very easy for me to tell the difference at lower HZ, I guess.

You will get use to it like for me, the sammy was quite bright since i moved from a 17inch CRT to this 22inch LCD.

And once you do.. you will never sit in front of radiation again.

you are going to notice a serious IQ improvement

and the refresh rate of a LCD at 60hz is not the same as the eye-burning 60hz of a CRT ;)

turn the brightness down [anyway] and make sure you spend some time adjusting it
-i miss my old CRT ... but i am not going back ... :p

Sorry not sure what 'IQ' is in relation to LCD's?, also if i change the brightness too much games tend to look pretty awful, thankfully there are color profiles though but I'm not gonna mess with calibration too much since I'll be changing my setup completely soon.

the 8800 series will look better then your old card ... noticeably better
-the image quality is actually much better!

and if you are happy, don't bother with calibration ... i did very little to my 205bw

Thanks man, I do have a decent amount of backlight-bleeding, but its not a big deal i guess, only noticable if the screen is totally black, I don't really wanna hassle with RMA'n it. Oh, i just started up WoW, the clarity is superb, but the 60HZ thing is gonna take a lot of gettin used to, my friend thinks i'm crazy and it doesn't bother him. On that note, is vsync pretty much standard to have on a LCD? Never used it on my CRT, but its seems pretty necessary..

your friend is 100% right ... 60hz refresh rate for a LCD is waaay different from the eye-killing/headache-inducing 60hz of a CRT[period].

Vsynch is a personal decision ... i don't use it for performance reasons ... the "tearing" is minor compared to the performance hit in modern games.

Yeah, I just made the jump to a Samsung 226BW as well, and while I do miss my old 17 inch CRT, I'm not sure if I would go back.

Since I have one of the newer versions, where the panel information isn't displayed on the labels or in the monitor's hidden menu, is there any way to find out which panel I got?

Yea you'll need to brind up the service menu, do this by setting brightness and contrast to 0 on the monitor, then hold the source button for about 5 seconds, it'll pop up and there should be some model/code numbers on there that can be used to tell.

Open the service menu and look at the version number:-

Example - M-ME22H0CAA 1002

Then use the info below to determine what panel you have.

* X-xxxxxxxAx-xxxx: Samsung panel.
* X-xxxxxxxLx-xxxx: AU Optronics panel.
* X-xxxxxxxDx-xxxx: CMO panel.
* X-xxxxxxxIx-xxxx: CPT panel.
