With the new rule changes, particularly doing away with the Illegal Defense call and allowing double coverage on players w/o the ball. what do you think will be the impact?

my first thought is that the Power Fowards will be the worst off.

Centers will get hurt in scoring but will be able to get more blocks and rebounds.

PG and SG that shoot the mid range jumper (read Michael Jordan) will benefit the most.

It will have little to no effect. Good players will still be good. There may be a period of adjustment, but in the end things will end up about the same.

Anything stupidly restrictive like illegal defense will be nice to get rid of.

Basketball's a suck sport anyway, they have to make all these stupid illogical rules just to make the game interesting, because on its own it would be boring as hell (fouls, shot clock..)

personally, I think the crybaby fouls at the end of a not even close game, so 4 minutes takes 30, should count as flagrant/technical fouls. It's annoying, it's no surprise, and boring as hell and ruins what was already a medicre game, turning into childish drivel.

It will probably decrease scoring, but I always felt that zone defense was better fundamental basketball (then again I'm no expert).

I thought the rule change that would have the most impact on the game was the elimination of the hand check rules but then I watched the preseason and realized that the refs have those old rules engrained into their minds so deeply that they just can't stop calling cheap fouls 40 feet from the basket. Everybody says isolation plays slow down the game the most when in reality it's the fact that guards can't even breath on the offensive player without getting a foul called. More whistles + more penalty free throws + more opportunities for commercials = longer games.

As for the zone rules, I likethemfor the majority of games. It may hurt certain teams (teams with one star and no outside shooting) but I think the emphasis should be more on the removal of the illegal defense rules than on the fact that this allows teams to play zone. The illegal defense call was just another way to slow down the game and I'd say that with the athleticism of the players in this league teams would rather let their guys play man to man. Maybe half way through the year teams will start coming up with new defensive schemes that use a zone but for now it will pretty much stay man to man.

I guess they haven't re-instituted the rules against traveling or palming.

people who are too scared to move in with the ball like Reggie Miller will be less effective, as you can pretty much double pick now, on a screen.

Oh, I hate Reggie Miller, i think he is the biggest wuss. To scared to drive in. Damn Yellow bone.
