Question New router suggestions

Looking to replace my 11 year old dlink router which is now physically dying.

I have a 200 mbit cable line with Mediacom in CA. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment that is relatively small. For modem I recently bought an Arris 6183 locally, still in return window for 20 days if there's a better alternative for me.

My PC is hardlined for my power-gaming habit. On WiFi, I have two streaming TVs, PS4, Nintendo Switch and at most a handful of phones/tablets/e-readers connected.

While I haven't kept up-to-date on network hardware for sometime I'm not completely hopeless as an end-user having modified and done quite a bit with my old router for the sake of optimizing and controlling traffic.

So I've been torn on routers. I know gaming labels are costly gimmick. Other than that I've been lost in a sea of options, with some suggestions including TPlink A7, Netgear Nighthawk models, Ubiquiti and microtik.

Lastly my budget is approximately $250.

I'm kind of old-school, don't want to have to use an "app" to control my router. Don't want/ need "the cloud" to have my wifi password or access to my LAn. Also, tend to prefer 3rd-party firmware.

So I use Asus routers. Inexpensive (more so for refurbs), and generally fairly functional.

AC68U and family is legendary.

Edit: If you're buying new, get an 802.11ax router, with WPA3, like a Netgear AX12.

So I've been doing some research and I think I'm actually leaning toward Ubiquiti, specifically the Edgerouter-x paired with a Unifi AP AC LR. I was considering the ER-Lite, ER-4 and Mikrotik 4011 but I have a feeling either of those would be a bit overkill for my scenario? Not speaking from a perspective of setup, I'm confident I can handle the learning curve but I mean overkill in general for my needs.

Anyone have any thoughts before I make a purchase?

I have ER-poe5 and two Unifi AP AC Pro. The ER-poe5 feeds power to the APs. I don't do fancy QoS.

In order to configure Unifi APs one needs Unifi software. I ran it in Docker container to get the AP's operational. If you wan't to gather stats 24/7, then you have to keep the software running. I don't. The Unifi software can't configure EdgeRouters, but it can configure Ubiquiti Firewall (?) device that is supposedly physically identical to ER-Lite.

ER-X + AP AC sounds reasonable. There was something about the AP AC Lite/Pro/LR ... the type of PoE that they use differs. You do get a power injector with the AP, but if you wan't to get power from router (or switch) rather than injector, then the ends must match.
