First off, if you don't plan to OC then nix the K and just snag the 3570. Also, memory is so cheap, get 8GB (2x4) for $35 instead. Then consider a 2TB hdd since the cost is only $110 or 1.5TB Barracuda which is $70 today. You don't give your budget, so I'll assume you want the very most for the very least. If so, get that 3570K (ignore what I said previously, because the K buys you additional performance and a future and it's cheapest at MicroCenter for $190 then get $50 off any Z77 mainboard. My pick for that proc would be the UD5H for $130 or $320 + tax out the door. Nothing beats the UD5H features at that price.

The Intel® DZ77Sl-50K is a good solid board that work well for your needs. If you look to overclock in the future it will allow you to overclock. After that I would look at the ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

OMG that 3770k is soo cheap. 290 bucks ... What is the most powerful Ivy CPU tho.

Isn't there a 3970k that is 6 core ? I bought a quad in 2007 , why buy a quad in 2013. ? Even tho it has HT. even nicer 12 threads.

Wait for Dukes of Haswell 6 core or grab a Ivy 6 core now... or ivy e ,, or wait for haswell e . Isn't that 3770k faster then a Sandy Bridge 2600k in every way ?

I'd go with a SB i5 2500K and overclock it to 4.5GHz effortlessly. The IB run way to hot to get a good overclock. I left everything on AUTO and it's only using 1.275v. This is the best CPU I've ever had.

Grab the Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 mobo for around $170. It has more features than you can shake a stick at.

Grab 8GB (2x4GB) of ddr3-1600 and your set to go.

Upgrading from a Core2Duo E8400 to the i5 2500K doubled my benchmark scores with the same 2 GTX 460 1GB in SLI.

Yes, then you will say wait until Broadwell, then it will be wait till Skylake, then .... If you are ready for a new system now, then do it. If you keep putting off until the "Next Big Thing", then you never upgrade.

Ummm, I wonder why there are so many jazzed Ivy owners and the little factoid that all Z77 boards support 3rdGen. Migosh!

Sandy Bridge was a botched rollout for Intel, the chipset limited the ability to use the both the internal and discrete graphics cards, rapid response wasn't available. Sandy Bridge CPUs will work with Ivy Bridge motherboards. But you won't get the PCIe 3.0 lanes, just PCIe 2.0 with the Sandy Bridge CPU. To me PCIe 3.0 is a killer for the idea of a Sandy Bridge CPU, since it limits your upgrade path.
