I am really excited about this new rig and I want to thank anyone who has replied to any of my posts. You guys made choosing the right hardware easy considering that the only knowledge i had was "cpu ghz = faster the better = intel teh win. (which i know is not true))

A little of what I came from:

Athlon 1.3ghz -------------> Athlon 64 3200+ venice
Asus A7V-E ---------------> DFI nF4 ultra-D
MSI Geforce 4 440mx -----> MSI 6600GT
cheap case -----------------> same cheap case
generic case psu -----------> Enermax 485W noisetaker
Samsung 17" CRT 75E -----> NEC 19" LCD 8ms glass like display with dvi, had 1 green dead pixel, exchanged no questions ased for pixeless one and tested in store :thumbsup: )
maxtor 60 gb ---------------> WD 200gb sata
generic ram ----------------> kingston 512x2 pc3200 (bro had a few around, will switch if can't OC)
Also got a nexus 120mm fan for intake, will upgrade stock HS/fan if my venice does indeed OC. I will make sure to have an external fan blowing on it while I OC :)

This might be nothing for some, but this is a huge jump imo and I am really excited. It was sad that I could barely play warcraft 3 with the lowest settings.
I am formating the partition as I type.

A few concerns I have:
the vga card is TOUCHING the chipset heatsink and looks like it is touching the fan but I can't hear any scratching noise. Should I be concerned?

Is the chipset fan adjustable via software? It is the loudest thing apart from the HD/CD loading. Are there other options?

speedfan = a program? I know many programs that monitor rpm but none that controls it :(

Just get a $30 fan controller. It looks good in a case and controls fan speeds without software intervention.

wow this little harddrive is getting HOT! is it required to have a fan for it? I never had one on my 60gb.

your driver disc comes with ITE smart guardian, you can use that. speedfan was a pain for me, kept jacking the chipset fan speed up.

thats a nice setup. be sure to check out dfi.street, lots of good advice and dfi tech guys are the mods.

HELP! Okay, I lowered the multiplier to 6x, the ram timings to like 6 and i can't boot into windows with anything above 220mhz... is my ram too crappy? does my vga card have any fsb limitation?

the pci-e speed is in genie bios. s/b 100.

i read closer, i didn't realize you had a 6600gt that was touching, i just assumed it was an ati as those are known to hit. anyway, may want to push on the corners of the hsf as its springloaded screws and may be sitting up a bit.

as far as your multi, i dunno, you have all 4 power connectors in? ldt@ 4x? btw, what is your psu?

Very nice LCD you got :)

I am really hoping NEC will come out with an Opticlear 20" or 21", since i want a higher rez than 1280*1024.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I lowered everything and applied a memory divider.

the max fsb is 352mhz
max cpu speed at 10x is 265
will adding voltage to cpu help?
btw this was down on 1.35v
