The specs of the comp:

Barton XP 2500+
Gigabye 7N400 Pro
120 GB Maxtor 7200RPM
512 MB Pc3200 Corsair XMS DDR Ram
Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 MB
Lite-On 52x CDRW
Antec 350 W case

Problem...all the components start up fine. CD rom opens and shuts, i can hear the hard drive at work, but nothing shows up on the monitor, the monitor keeps flashing as if nothing is connected to the video card, but its connected firmly to the card....any suggestions?

I just put a system together tonight using a 7N400-L1, running Prime 95 now. Only issue is EZtune isn't working.

First make sure ram and vid card are propperly seated. If you can see any of the gold leads its not fully seated.

Are you getting any beep codes?

what id do is id try to reset the cmos, make sure that you didnt overclock it (as per nothing showing up on your screen...) and see if everything work out on the absolute stock speed.

I've tried that too. I unplugged the motherboard, and took out the battery and let it sit for a half hour...still didnt change the fact that there is no boot.

And what puzzles me even more...why should I have to reset the cmos on a system i've never even used yet?

Just in case it was packaged incorrectly after pre-package testing.

No beep codes to me indicates that the video card still might not be seated properly, is defective or your AGP slot is bad. You're getting power everywhere else so its not PS or mobo related (other that the actual slot which I doubt). If you have another machine, make sure that the video cable still works fine.

Is there a fan on the GeForce 4? If so, does it turn at all?

Ok so we know the slot is getting power so that's good.

I think you're looking at only the card itself, the Video cable or the monitor.

If you have a second machine, see if you can test each one of the three individually until you can narrow down the problem.

Good luck.

The monitor is new..so I anticipate no problems there...in fact the only component of my rig that is NOT new and retail is the geforce 4...which I incidentally bought off of another anandtech member...so I guess the culprit is the vid card.
