So, I've been kinda wanting to have something like Tivo, but am not really wanting to buy it and pay the subscription ect, when i can just build one myself... i've been wanting one for quite some time, but then i read the article in pc world about the flag and read through the guide and it seems easy enough, so i figgure, why not? one question i have though, from what i've read i'm fairly certain i can, but do not want to spend all the money to find out i misread it... i can record analog channels as well as digital ones with the cards correct? i've read statements to the extent that its possible, but again, want to make sure that i have not misinterpreted them. edit: just so you know, i don't know a great deal about any of this, so any knowledge you can share with me is also welcome :)

the suggested processor speed was 2800+ or faster, helps make recording and converting and all faster and easier, in the interest of money, i'm willing ot wait 20 minutes longer to convert my files, so any speed that is known to function properly is quite alright with me, if the difference in money between speeds and the time saving is great enough though, i'll likely go ahead and get a slightly faster processor. also going to need a mobo to go with the processor, as well as a case to put it in, so if you have any suggestions on a mobo, case, or a barebone system that would fit my needs, feel free.

for a capture card, i'm open to suggestions anyone may have for me, if there are no suggestions posted, i'll look around, but likely go with the suggested one, the hd-3000.

i'm thinking around a 200 gig hd, any suggestions would be welcome in that department.

i'll probably go ahead and put my fx5200 i've got laying around in there, and pick up a gig of ram or so. a dvd burner is not really necessary right away, but if there is a good one for a decient price, i'll go ahead and pick one up, otherwise i might wait for a while for them to become faster and cheaper and then pick one up.

Now, if it makes sense, i might go ahead and use parts of my current rig and buy for a new computer, one that will be dual core compatable and can run dual video cards in sli, although i will not be using these feature immediatly if i do go this route. i have an amd 2200+, msi kt4v mobo, 2 hds i would be switching out, 768 megs of ram, some of which i would or would not use, and my 9800pro, which i would switch over.

this topic is in no means hardware related, but i have also not used linux, though i am wanting to, and if anyone can point me in a linux help direction i would greatly appreciate it :)

if any more information is needed just let me know, and i will do what i can, and thanks in andvance for any help.
