Ok the rig I have now has xp-1700+, will I see enough of a difference in getting xp-2500+ to be able to play hl2 well? Should I go with the Celeron Ds? Do they oc well?

Other suggestions welcome

Thanks for the help :p

1700+ is what speed? 1.46 ghz? and 2500+ is 2.2 ghz...

i think you should notice some sort of game in fps...

as for getting a celeron... i'm not amd fanboy but the celerons aren't great... the axp is > than the celerons even the newer ones...

2500+ = 1.83 ghz (11x166), w/ 512k l2 cache

Unless you're overclocking, you're not going to see a humongous difference. What kind of mobo do you have? My recommendation...get a mobile Barton (35watt) from newegg, and overclock the living snot out of it.

Best option. OC the 1700+ first.

Also make sure your graphics are up to par... that'll make more difference than just a new CPU.

If 1700+ can oc to 2.0G or 2.2G, it can play the hl2

Ususlly 2500+(1.83G) can oc to 3200+(2.2G), you can change to the 2500+

There is no need to change to C-D, or you will change the mobo

I doesn't necessarily have to be a cheap ass mobo.... you can get the Abit AV8 (i think I have that right) and 2800+ (socket 754) for around 200...
