New Rig - Power:Price:Future

I'm currently building another gaming rig... and as usual.. I'm unable to decide on a video card.

Considering the possible release of the GT200 series within a few months.. Is it foolish to invest in a high end video card at this point. Just kind of thinking out loud. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the middle of a build right now, but I'm going to wait until the end of next month to see how the new cards shake the market out. I'll probably end up with an 8800GT or 8800GTS G92, but if the Radeon HD 4850 performs better in nearly the same price range, I might pick one of those up. I think the first new Nvidia cards are at the higher end of the price range and my budget is around $150-$200 or lower. The 4850 might fall in that range though.

I wish a 3rd party company like evga would produce ati cards, and the step up from any card could be used for one in either line. I would love to buy a 9600gt or something and then be able to step up to a new nVdia OR a new ATI card when they're released. How sweet would that be?

I would do as above, wait and see or buy a cheap but decent card to tide you over. Top of the line now would be foolish.
