NEW rig for photoshop; AMD or Intel ??

Hey guys I'm looking to build a new computer to edit my photographs (I'm a photographer). I've heard conflicting reports on which is better for this purpose. I'm leaning towards an intel system. Looking at either an intel 650 (3.4) or an AMD 3800+. They are both similar in price. Opinions please.

I would go with an AMD 3800+, if I had to choose out of those two. My personal preference for an editing system would be a dual/quad Zeon or Opteron system loaded with ram.

Yeah, I've heard that a dual CPU system would be best, but I just don't have the budget right now. The biggest thing against an AMD setup is that I've heard that if you multi-task, the intel is better because of hyperthreading. Any other opinions?

everyone has opinions on this.. and many are biased....

from what I've read in comparison reports.. it seems that Intel is better for video editing, and AMD is better for gaming...
... for graphics editing (photoshop, etc..) and business apps.. they are pretty even....

.. my wife is an abuser of photoshop and corel draw... and works on my other machine...which is an AMD based machine.. it works flawlessly... just make sure you have enough memory ... and you'll be happy with either platform

Wait for the dual core athlons.

When do dual core's arrive? Will they be priced at $700+ or will there be something in the $400 range. Will current motherboards be able to run them too or will a new motherboard be needed?

I've been using my Intel system to do PhotoShop 7.0 and Premiere Pro since last July. No problems with speed and ability. I've got 2 gigs of RAM and now dual monitors which makes even sweeter🙂. YEAH BABY!
