hi all, im thinking of getting a computer system for my parents for christmas, i looked online for some pre built ones, but i think ill save some money and build my own.

could someone help me set up a system, i really have no clue what to buy - all they need is a basic basic system, since they have never really used computers before - so this will be a learning computer i guess, nothing fancy needed, just enough for word processing, maybe downloading pictures and music. i really dont want to spend over $500 including the monitor, but im not sure if thats even possible.

Dell. Prebuilt, legal copy of Windows, warranty service.

You can check out places like GottaDeal.com for deals, they were listing a deal for a $400 laptop though it may be gone now.

If not, you can build one yourself, but it will probably cost more with a legal copy of Windows, and mom doesn't want you to steal :)

Yep, dell offers some great deals on computers that will easily handle what you are asking. Just keep an eye out for the budget system deals they always run, you probably can snag a full system with an lcd monitor with your $500 budget, which is much better than you could hope for if you tried to put together the stuff yourself.

Yeah go with a Dell it will save you time probably money and you won't have to give free comp service to your parents when the comp is messed up

Dell + Coupon Codes

Legal Windows, Usually a free monitor, Customer Service.

OR

If your parents are good with computers, than you could build them one, but option one is preferable.

ok, i found some dells, i dont think i will add the floppy drive now since i can buy it for ike 5-10 bucks on new egg instead of 20 on dell... and i can always add it later right? im not sure on these dells or any manufactured computers, but i know i can add it on the comp i build..
