New rig bluescreens on startup

I just finished constructing my rig (all brand new parts except for 2 HDDs), but it bluescreens on startup. If I put the HDDs into my old rig, it boots fine. Unfortunately it restarts immediately after bluescreening so I can't read the error message.

Specs:

The new stuff:

G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Memory

Antec Sonata III 500 Black Computer Case (w/ 500w PSU)

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512-P3-N975-AR Video Card

ASUS P5N-D ATX Intel Motherboard

Transferred from the old rig:

Samsung SP0802N HDD (Master)

Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500 (Slave)

I had expected my old DVD-RW to transfer into the new rig, but didn't realize it had no SATA port and I need the mobo's sole IDE for the HDDs. So I formatted the master HDD and installed Windows XP Pro while the HDDs were in the old rig. So far I've tried booting in safe mode and re-arranging the RAM.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Fresh install of Windows on the new rig.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that until I've ordered and received a new DVD drive. I'm somewhat concerned that those old HDDs are somehow not compatible with the new components. Do you think that installing windows while the HDD was in the old rig somehow corrupted the installation?

They are compatible but Windows is trying to load drivers and the HAL for the old rig. You must reinstall windows so everything is detected correctly.

^^^ +1

Try this:

1) Put the drives back into the old box
2) Put the P5N-D chipset drivers onto a thumbdrive
3) Uninstall the chipset drivers for the old mobo
4) Put the drives into the new box
5) Unplug all unnecessary devices from the new box
6) Unjumper all unnecessary devices from the new box

Hopefully, Windows will now boot. Pop in the thumbdrive and install the chipset drivers for the P5N-D, then plug in and jumper all the devices again. You should be good to go, but a clean install of the OS and chipset drivers is still highly recommended.

Incorrect. Disconnect the slave drive from the ribbon, set the optical drive to slave and connect that to the ribbon. Now you can do a clean install.
