Gigabyte now lists two different revisions of its GA-MA78GM-S2H microATX boards with no aparent differences.

Old one (rev 1.0) is here:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Pro...ew.aspx?ProductID=2758

New one (rev 1.1) is here:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Pro...ew.aspx?ProductID=2814

I doubt there are significant difference however the two boards use different BIOS, but neither supports the high TDM Phenoms according the each board's cpu support list.

If anyone knows anything more on this, please advise.

I think you've got it right there. If you read the Newegg user comments, the biggest complaint is the overheating of the Northbridge. The GA-MA78GM-S2H's heatsink is a bit shallower than the ASUS AMD 780G boards as well as Gigabyte's own GA-MA78G-DS3H. I recall reading here on an earlier thread that Gigabyte already had a 1.1 rev with improved heatsink lined up.

If this had been available a couple of weeks ago, I might have gone with this over the GA-MA78G-DS3H and saved $10 to 15.

I wasn't aware of the overheating. So we got one in the bag.

But they could just stay on the same board revision and just ship them with a new heatsink. There's no need for a PCB revision update for something like this. What about the different BIOS?

The rev 1.1 is already on sale here in Australia it seems and the noticeable difference is the heatsink.

Does anyone know if this is the version with onboard 128MB DDR3 memory for the IGP? Because Gigabyte said there will be one soon.

Rev 1.1 isn't it but as you say, it seems there will be a 780G board with sideport just like their upcoming 790GX board. It is likely to be a new design rather than another revision of the existing board though.

Read the 9950 review here. Lots of blowups. Pop goes the mosfet. Also search "The Three Amigos".

I like the board but I am waiting for a clear statement that the mosfet issues are all clear for the (supposedly) supported CPU's - like the new Phenoms - this is pretty rude stuff and they are just being smug about it rather than being up front and honest about it.

Have a nice rma and keep the receipt.

A new 780G board will have a beefed up mosfet - this sideport thing is a smokescreen. Isn't that just for the video? The vid section is ok - you just can't be safe w a hi power cpu - and if you oclok? that's using more power too - so good luck!

I would expect a new model - but they have to issue a clear statement - and they probably won't. Sad for such a nice set of features on this board. I am afraid of a product dump too.

Personally I wish AMD would just make their own boards. The joy of researching my next rig has become paranoia. I do not trust mobo manufax. This is now dirty business for me - I got burned b4 - so I don't trust now. And this issue of mosfet is out of the bag and needs to be clearly addressed. It makes no sense - so I await new product or major revision - honestly admitting and fixing a problem is the only way - instead, silence!! Hiding behind tek specs doesn't cut it anymore.

Notice the three-pin NB_FAN connection on the board? Does it ship with a northbridge fan, or is that for a third-party fan? Good thing that they included it, it seems like this chipset does need a fan.

I'm disappointed that the five-phase VRMs don't have a heatsink on them. AT tested the baby brother of this board, with (I think) the four-phase VRMs, and they ran very hot. I would think that the first revision that Gigabyte would do would be to add some heatsinks.
