New relatively-quiet system suggestions?

Hi.

I'm building a new system and comments / suggestions would be welcome. I want to build the quietest AMD system I can while still being as fast as possible. So far this is what I've come up with:

AMD 1.2Ghz
Asus A7M266
Taisol CGK742092 fan
IBM DTLA-30745 45GB
Enlight EN-7237 case

I've read that there are quieter fans than the Taisol but don't provide quite enough cooling? I have several older IBM drives and they're pretty quiet, so I assume this one will be too. How well does the case block out sound and how loud is the fan?

Basically what I'm asking is can I do better in terms of noise without sacrificing much if anything?

get a better case...i.e. antec sx-1030(b)...

larger (i.e. full tower) cases provide better means of cooling w/ less fans...i've seen numerous reviews stating that a single intake fan cools the ambient temperature of the case better than a single rear...so if u're looking for only using one fan, putting it in the frotn intake might be the best...from experience however, i noticed better cooling /w one exhaust, rather than one intake (tho i use both)...

the quietest hdds i've heard of are the Fujitsu fluid bearing drives...like the one i'm using which i rarely hear, even when working (could be my case fans muffling it tho, but i can hear my other drive, which sucks)..

also, larger fans cool more effectively than smaller faster spinning ones..and are quieter since they spin slower but push comparable air around (since they're larger)...so try putting 12cm or 9.2cm case fans in substitution for 8cm ones.

i just put in an enermax 330w ps and a panaflo fan. my system is much quieter than before.

I've got the 7237 but changed the PS to the enermax 330W supply, noticeably quieter. I have an alpha 6035 with a quiet (19 cfm) fan that I got from plycon.com.

I can hear my analog clock that's ten feet away while sitting in front of my system with an open case... It makes an annoying little noise once a minute as the second hand passes the alarm hand... 🙂

maybe I'll get a new digital one to make that quieter too....

My Duron 700@980 stays under 100F.
