new refrigerator

so mine broke down yesterday, got it switched (i live in rent)
the guys told me to wait an hour to turn it on?? how come anyone know?

or they needed an hour to get away in case it doesnt work ?

When a refrigerator is moved the oil/liquid in the gets up in the compressor. Letting it sit lets it drain back down. If you start it with the oil in the compressor it will cause very high pressures and possibly blow a seal or damage the compressor.

Something like that anyway.

Best to let it sit for about eight hours from what I have heard.


And yes, my sister plugged on in right after it was moved and it quite working.

The only reason I can think of is that it was transported on its side and they want the oil in the compressor to re-settle.

I don't know how big of a deal this really is, though. Maybe it can potentially hydrolock the compressor?
