New Receiver with Satellite Question

In our home our receiver stop working so we are looking to get a new one. We have a couple of issues that might cause a problem. The big screen tv not sure what the model is Ill get back to you on that, but it can only have 1 hd input at a time plugged in, and no HDMI. The way we have set up right now is that we put the satellite box into the tv.

I had a few questions about the receiver.
1. Are there any receiver/bluray combos out there? I found some that way blurray but dont have a bluray. Like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DN102...3010647&sr=8-6

2. Should we have it so that the sate box plugs into the receiver and then the receiver plugs into the tv. Will that ruin our sate box or it will still work okay? It is a DVR as well. Thanks for your help. If you need additional info ill try to provide it!

I'll start with some questions A)Does your Satellite box have an HDMI output, if not what outputs does it have? B)You say your TV doesn't have HDMI inputs, what inputs does it have, component, VGA, DVI?

To answer your questions
1) the sony unit in your link has a misleading description, it is just a 7.1 ch 3d ready receiver, I'm not sure why it's called a blue-ray receiver in the description. The closest you'll get to a blue ray/receiver combo will be some kind of home theater in a box deal. I'm not endorsing this particular product just showing it as an example:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HT-BD1...012127&sr=1-10

2) Depending on what type of connections your satellite box and other sources have it's probably going to be best to connect everything to the receiver and have a single connection between the receiver and the television, although this isn't the only way to connect things. Connecting the satellite box to a receiver shouldn't harm it in any way and the DVR will still function properly, depending on how you connect everything you may not get surround sound from the satellite box though. To get surround sound you'll probably have to connect the satellite box to the receiver directly via HDMI, if your satellite box has a digital optical audio output, you may be able to connect that to a receiver and get surround sound and connect the video directly to the television, but you'd have to search through the manuals to be certain it will work.

Thats cool but I rather just buy the unit. I have all the pictures that work fine. I just need a unit that works. I might think even about repairing this unit but not sure what is wrong with it. They are pretty cheap even with the speakers and that one comes with wireless capabilities. Do you know of any that have the bluray and just the unit w/o the speakers bc I have a hard tiem finding those.

I don't think I've ever seen a blue-ray/receiver combo without speakers. If that's what you really want it may be cheaper to buy a kit that includes speakers than it would be to buy a receiver and blue-ray player separately. Wal-mart, Best Buy, Target, Costco, etc usually carry some pretty cheap kits, quality is meh, but the price is usually pretty good for what you get.
