New ram: Computer won't boot.

Hello guys. I recently (about 2 weeks ago) bough two Crucial Micron 512MB 64x64 PC2700 DDR ram 184 Pin CL-2.5-unbuffered non parity 2.5v ram. When I tried to install it into my Soyo SY-KT400 DRAGON Ultra (Platinum Edition) motherboard it would not boot. When I boot it up and turn it on it will just freeze on the Checking Ram part right before the computer starts in the Bios screen. This also happened when I bough my PNY DDR a while back. It would not work and finally my brother got it to work but the original DDR ram that was installed was fried. I checked on Cricual webpage and it states that the ram I bough from new egg would work in my computer and I heard that crucial works in almost all computers. So I'm sure I did something wrong.

I am sure I installed it correctly. When it didn't work I flashed the bios just to see if that would fix it. I tried different slots. And I tried the Crucial DDR alone and it still will freeze. Anyone have an idea? I don't think the chips are fried either since both doesn't want to work. Anyone have an idea on how to get it working? Thanks

I would try clearing the BIOS.

1) Unplug the computer
2) Short the BIOS with jumper
3) Pull battery
4) Wait for 30 minutes to an hour.
5) Put everything back and try to start it up.
 
Doh! I jinyxed(sp?) myself. It worked and when I turned it off and tried to start it Windows had a blue screen of death saying the registry was screwd up. I'm thinking it was because I installed the new DDR ram and took the old one out. I am trying to install 2 sticks of DDR ram and take the original out because it is only PC2100 while the new ones are PC2700. I tried clearing the bios but no go. Do I have to stick both ram stick in the right side or left side? Does it matter? Initially when I cleared the bios and stuck one stick in it worked. ADVAthanksNCE

Generally, adding more memory or switching them should not affect your windows installation. Likewise, having both PC2100 and PC2700 should not affect the OS either. I think something else (unless your memory is faulty) is causing the BSOD. First run a memtest for the memory. It will test the integrity of the memory you have (you don't need to start the OS to run this test application). If no errors are found, you can work on other possible solutions (i.e., other hardware or drivers-related).

To have the screaming start after someone actually cleared their BIOS? It's the CMOS RAM that needs clearing, if the BIOS is cleared, the board will be dead ...
