Ok... building a machine around the HD 4870 X2 R700 (http://sg.vr-zone.com/articles...rce_GTX_280/5851.html) Or the GTX 280 if it wins in the end. (Is the GTX 280 also dual chips?)

So the question is...what do you speculate will be the optimum setup?

Mind you I know nothing about today's current Mobos, RAM, ROM, EPROM...etc

So you think the 8400 would be wise ...or the 9450? I know Alan Wake will be utilizing the quad cores, and I really want to play that when it comes out. Also will the current gen of Mobos be able to take Nehalem? Not that I'll care as long as I can run today's games on max...woot :D

To recap...I need your suggestions on a Mobo (non-sli), DDR2 RAM, case (reasonable), and PSU. Also what brand of Windows Vista do I need to whore myself out to? It's amazing what I have to do to play a few freakin games. :p

There's a sticky at the top of the forum with standard questions about creating a new build. Post your answers here and it will be very useful to the people trying to help you.

For starters I'll tell you that current motherboards absolutely positively will not handle Nehalem family processors because Intel is creating a new socket.

Other advice really would depend on your answers to the questions in the sticky. As far as case, what's important to you? Do you want a window? Windowless? Tricked out or understated? Do you care about noise level? Want a case that can be easily modded/painted, or do you not care? Weight? Size?

Oops... sorry about that. :)

1. What YOUR PC will be used for: GAMING

2. What YOUR budget is: Quality doesn't come cheap. Until I get married, I can abuse my wallet.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from: US

4. IF YOU have a brand preference: Nope... whatever is the most stable

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are: Just upgrading the box itself

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads: Yep.. someone suggested a few SLI boards and then the DFI x48 LT-T2R or DFI x48 UT-T2R or DFI P35 UT ...is DFI the reigning champ?

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. Keeping it default...

8. WHEN do you plan to build it? Whenever the new cards come out.

9. Case... well just something to hold everything. I reckon I can find a case... should have thought of that...I'm retarded this early ;)
