I just ordered my new system yesterday from www.ncix.com (they really have the best deals I think, at least for Canadian customers).

Here are the parts that I got. Many I am reusing from my old computer.

-Thermaltake Kandalf Aluminum (Already had this)
-OCZ GameXStream 850W (Already had this)
-ASUS P5K Deluxe - $235 CAD
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - $571 CAD
-Thermaltake MaxOrb CPU Cooler - $65 CAD
-4GB (1GB x4) Corsair XMS2 800MHz 4-4-4-12 - $95 CAD for each 2GB set after MIR
-EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB (Already had this)
-LG DVD-RAM SATA Black w/ Lightscribe (x2) - $55 for each but I had a gift certificate from where I got them for -$50
-SoundBlaster Audigy 2 (Already had this but will soon upgrade to Auzentech Prelude when the bank refills a little)
-Seagate 7200.9 250GB Hard Drive (Already had this)
-Seagate 7200.8 120GB IDE Hard Drive (Already had this)
-Maxtor DiamondMax 200GB IDE Hard Drive (Already had this)

A few things... I realise many of you will say that I could have gotten a better cooler for a much better price, and yes, I realise that. The reason I went with the MaxOrb was because I didn't want to have a huge heatsink like the Tuniq or the Ultra Extreme in my case. I don't really plan on heavy overclocking so there's no need for the absolute best cooling. I just wanted something that would cool the Quad a little better than the stock heatsink since I know they can get hot. I liked the look of the MaxOrb (it's big but not too big) and it has a nice blue LED which will illuminate my case a little more.

I realise the Q6600 is a better bang for the buck, and the Q6700 is kinda expensive, but I decided to spend a little more since I don't really overclock that much and I didn't need all of the other components, not to mention I didn't want to gamble on getting a G0 or not as NCIX still ships plenty of B3's apparently. From benchmarks I see the Q6700 has a 10-20% increase over the Q6600 depending on the application so I hope it will be worth it and last me a while. And if I do overclock when I start needing it I'll be starting at a higher clock.

As for the motherboard, I know many of you wanted me to get the Abit IP35 Pro but I went with the P5K Deluxe because it was only $25 more with the special and I kept hearing from a lot of other forums that Abit has a reputation of not supporting their boards with BIOS updates. Plus I've always just had a thing for ASUS boards, they've always been good to me. Hopefully this one will too.

Lastly, I didn't get any new hard drives because I am waiting on the Seagate 7200.11 series that is supposed to be out any time now but I still haven't seen any in stock in the 500GB variety. So I will be using my old IDE hard drives until they come out and then I will snatch one up. Do you think that this might effect my performance that much? I really can't wait to get rid of my IDE drives but so far it seems I will have to wait a bit longer for those drives. If anyone has info on an ETA that would be nice, cause the last I heard was September. :(

Also, I plan on upgrading to the 9800GTX when it comes out. Other than that, the 7200.11 hard drives and the Auzentech Prelude, I should be good for a while, no? I just hope those hard drives won't hinder the performance too much until then. I can't wait to get rid of those IDE ribbons either...

Everything will probably come to around 1500$ excluding the 9800GTX but that will be out in a while still.

If you can't wait then I would suggest just getting the 150GB Raptor to use as your new boot disk and using your old drives for storage. The 7200.11 will likely perform somewhere close around this Raptor.

Well I could do that but they seem overpriced to me. I think I am just gonna wait for the 7200.11s. I will probably get better performance or at least around equal and have way more storage space.

I was just curious how much it would effect performance until then. They are pretty old HDDs.
