New PSU + Videocard

OK so I just purchased eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256MB & this cheapo PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817148027

Currently have:

Abit LG775 mobo
1GB corsair DDR400
dvdrom
floppydrive
3.0ghz Prescott
Creative Audigy 2 Soundcard
400w generic PSU

Im pretty sure this powersupply im buying will run the machine fine, Ive had a case baught 420w aspire psu that lasted me a few years. So I am just asking for opinions on this setup? I get the new hardware wednesday.

ugh, I would stay away from that aspire PSU. If you want an inexpensive yet reliable PSU, go for the 450w Fortron. NEVER skimp on the PSU, I did once, and it blew taking out my $180 motherboard..would you want risk that to happening to your $300 video card??

I get your point but the reviews were awesome, plus Im low on $$ you think this psu is that dangerous of a risk? Ive never had a psu ruin anything before, the aspire powersupply I had went dead, it didnt manage to ruin anything. And it lasted near 3 years.

Your question is asked here atleast ten times a week and the answer is still yes 😀

Take $50 out of the graphics card and put it into the PSU.........Simple solution.

"I will buy something better." You are addressing the PSU with that statement. Mmmm.

Very typical and expected responce. When the rig starts crashing you will "get some money together."

Being mean.....No, just being honest.

Allthough I understand the seriousness, I think you guys might be over-reacting a bit, thanks for your opinion GalvanizedYankee. I will take my chances for a while.

Most PSU reviews don't mean anything, most sites use software monitering tools that do not give accurate results, only a few sites (xbit, THG, SPCR) give numbers that actually mean something.

Kind of useless to post this. You already bought it and unless you want to fork out the 15% restocking fee it's yours.

In the future, read up on it in these forums before your purchase, and then ask if you need to. Most people would have told you to spend 10 bucks more on the FSP 450.

But, if it's a short term solution, you'll be fine. It'll be loud and the Aspire dual rails won't be able to give you a very good P4 overlcock but it probably won't break anything.

Yeah I was looking at that psu, fortunately the rebates I will getting from this purchase will be enough to go towards a higher quality psu so im not worried. I do not overclock anything, I keep cooling a priority, I will be watching what is going on with the machine very closely. As I said before, more psu's are nice to have around.
