I am looking forward to getting a 6800 AGP 4x for my computer and people have suggested to also get a new PSU for my Dimension 8200.

The current PSU specs are:
Wattage
250 W

Heat dissipation
534 BTU (fully-loaded computer without monitor)

Voltage (switch-selectable
on back panel)
90 to 135 V at 60 Hz; 180 to 265 V at 50 Hz;
100 V at 50 to 60 Hz for Japanese computers

Backup battery
3-V CR2032 coin cell

Dell Documentation found at:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8200/specs.htm#1101572

Link to dump from cpu-z:

Now, I want to spend around 30-35$ for the PSU, which one should I get?

Thanks a lot for the help.

A PSU is very important to a computer. I would spend alittle more money then just 30-35 dollars on a PSU.

I'm not too knowledgable in this area but I would just reccomend going with a name brand PSU like Antec. Stay away from PSUs from PowMax or Rosewill and you'll be ok.

450W Fortron @ Newegg for $50.
Dual +12V rails with 18A on each.
Best PSU for the money.
The XClio 450W would probably come in a close second place for that budget.

I tend to agree with The Elite Noob. If your budget precludes something like the Zippy HG2-6350P or the Seasonic S12-330 or up, then that's the way to go. The nice thing about the XClio 450 is that is comes with just about every connector known to man and a neat accy for your fans. It is still made by Channel Well (same as Antec and may Enermax, etc.) so it should be reliable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dells always used to have non-standard pin layout for their psus so you may need to switch some wires around in the plug or else your psu may not work correctly (or you may fry something too). Also, make sure that a standard ATX psu will even fit in your Dell case.

Yes, both pinout and size and shape of PSU must be checked when replacing PSUs in Dell systems. Standard ATX PSU is 5.9" wide by 5.5" deep by 3.4" high. www.formfactors.org has diagrams of standard ATX pinouts (in the ATX specification pdf file).
