Hey all,

Well gonna buy a new PSU so need help in choosing which 1 out of:

Cooler-Master GX 750W or
Corsair 650W TX-650v2 or
Thermaltake TR2 Bronze 700W

All of them come with a 5 year warranty

The corsair 650W has 53A on the 12V rail.
The cooler-master has 60A on the 12V rail
and the thermaltake has 55A on the 12V rail

And for some reason on the Cooler-master website it says that the CM-GX 750 is rated for 750W but has a MAX output of 900W so im leaning towards the cooler master but can anyone help me still choose which would be the better one.

System SPec;

i7 2600K going to use for OC
4GB DDR3 RAM 1.6GHz
5 X 120MM fans
Gigabyte p67a-ud3r-b3 mobo
DVD writer
1TB WD black HDD

Help is greatly appreciated.

Where are you buying from?

Out of those choices, Corsair TX650 V2 is the best. However, you didn't list a GPU. Depending on your GPU you may not need that much power.

Hey mate,

My GPU is a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 460 1gb oc'ing version. I WILL be doing overclocking with this
i will also be doing overclocking with my i7 2600K when i get my liquid cooling system - antec kuhler h20.

Will the corsair TX 650V2 be enough?

The only PSU on your list that I'd put in one of my builds is the Corsair.

yeah I would get that Corsair. and you really need to get 8gb instead of just 4gb of ram. its cheap now and will certainly be more useful than you think.

This...IF you're going with a 64 bit OS. Otherwise, 4 Gb is all you need.

Yes, 650W is plenty for your build even if you OC alot. 550W would actually be fine too.

Im in New Zealand, buying from DTC systems.

Thanks. I wanted to know that so I can check what else is available that you may have missed :)

Going through the site - this one, right? http://www.dtconline.co.nz/ - I can't find any of the three choices you listed. I imagine this is because you're buying from a local store that has a different stock than the online store

Yep, thats the site. The corsair TX650V2 that i bought is there for $188, the guy gave it to me for $180NZD :) , converts to $143 USD. Hmm.. well all pc parts here are way too overpriced here anyway then the US .. sigh..lucky .

I actually rang the store up and the guy said he could order virtually anything the other stores had even if he didn't officially stock it, so yea..

I have already installed the PSU. Its actually great :D Came in rather neat packaging for a power supply.

Another issue I have is that my case gets dusty, and the PSU that I replaced had lots of dust inside it. Im just worried that If my new corsair one gets dusty as well, I cannot open it up to clean as it will void the warranty. SO is there anyway i can prevent dust buildup on it?
Say maybe a dust filter?, i was thinking i could get this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150533596109?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Oh yes, and I have mounted the PSU with the fan pointing in the case. There are ventilation holes on the side of the PSU where you put the power cord in and here the master switch is. How do i prevent dust going in there?

You won't be able to stop all the dust...you just have to clean your computer periodically. I wouldn't put a filter on the power supply. You don't want ANYTHING to restrict air flow in/out of that.

I live in a very dusty part of northern California. I have to clean my computer once per month. I take it outside and use a vacuum cleaner (with the hose attached to the "OUT" side of the machine) to blow the dust out. I get a dust cloud that will rival any Saharan dust storm...I remove the video card and blow the dust out of that, I blow the dust out of the power supply from every opening, and I use a soft-bristled brush to clean fan blades. (then blow the loose dust off/out.)

I could probably buy filters for my HAF 932 case, but they'll only stop so much...I'll still have to clean it out.

Thanks for your reply mate. So you use a vacuum cleaner, where do you stick the hose into to blow the dust out? So in other words, where does the dust come out from when you blow air into it and where do you stick the hose in to do this? , because I cant see anyway I could stick a hose in through the fins of the fan.

Some vacuum cleaners are strictly "suck only," but some allow you to connect the hose to the "out" side...turning it into a blower. Just blowing air through the fan and the grills should blow out MOST of the dust in the power supply. You could always use "canned air" for this, but since I have to do this so often, that's a ridiculous expense IMO.

Better to use compressed air cans than a vacuum cleaner. Vacuum cleaners can create static electricity. A compressed air can should last several cleanups, if you clean the PC say once every two months it should last at least 6 months, possibly a year

Lmao ok ill checked my vacuum cleaner for that, and it doesn't have it :( looks like ill have to stick with the compressed air.

I decided to check the user manual of the vacuum cleaner and it turns out it actually does have a blow function, just need to open a compartment at the back of it and connect the hose there and it worked! :D now a clean PSU. thanks buddy for your help!

Just be careful. As lehtv mentioned, vacuum cleaners CAN create static electricity...and that can kill components. Do not allow the nozzle of the vacuum touch any component inside the case.

a plastic nozzle can pass static electricity?

I dunno. My vacuum has a steel nozzle...but I suppose it's possible. As I understand it, the static charge builds up as the air passes over the inside surface of the hose..<shrug>

Is my Corsair TX650 V2 loud on idle?, I have a video on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW4Ym-LFMvw

Its because many people have complained that there one is also loud (the fan), is my one loud on idle?

Note: you can hear the HDD in start of the video, but I unplug it 10 seconds later.
It is also no where near as loud as it is in the video due to my camera having a sensitive microphone.
When watching put your speaker volume at full but on the youtube volume controller put the volume about a third of the bar high.

Lmao it is a seagate HDD and its 4 years old to. So the PSU is to loud? Many people have complained about this particular PSU having a noisy fan.
