New PSU for Acer notebook

My wife has an Acer AMD64 notebook, I think its called the 1500 or so. Now the notebook is quite OK. The PSU that came with it gets quite hot. With all this talk about efficiency for desktops PSUs going on you'd expect a few better PSUs for laptops as well, especially since it's only one voltage on output.

What would be a good replacement? Is it all the same voltage?

Personally, most laptop power bricks get very hot due to the transformers in them. I wouldn't worry unless you're really botherd. We havea 180W PSU for the ZD8x series that gets very hot, for instance, but is within normal operating temps.

Genrally, the best replacements are the manufacturers, there are a lot of dodgy companies providing replacement PSU's, and using a non-manufacturers PSU will vpoid your warrantry as well in the case of any power issues.

Look through the documentation of your notebook to find operating temperatures for the PSU, if they are over the documented operating temps, then you are entitled to a replacement.
