New PSU but still no power on

I have replaced an Antec True Power which was whining presumably due to bad capacitors. The system finally shut itself down and would not power on at all nor was the led on my mobo lighting up. Being a month or two out of warranty I went out and bought a Cooler Master Real Power Pro 650w. I have the new PSU installed and the green LED on the mobo turns on when power is present but nothing happens when I press power on the case. I have double checked and reseated the power switch wires as well as reseat the mobo power plugs. Anything else that I should check to help me trouble shoot this issue?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

But first a little history for you. The True Power II line of PSUs from Antec had a bad history of bad capacitors which caused a high rate of failures with those PSUs. Worst yet was that a good percentage of those failures also damaged the motherboard. So there is a good chance that when the PSU finally bit the dust that it killed your motherboard too. There is also a chance that it has damaged the CPU and RAM as well. It may be in your best interest to invest in a new PC.

If a new PC isn't an option then get with a friend who has a similar PC so you can use your CPU and RAM in there system to check if they are OK. If they are then all you need is a new motherboard.

I have my old Epox 9npa in the closet, I will have to hook it up this afternoon. Hopefully Windows won't barf when I swap out the mobo.

I've begun to grow out of the whole building a custom PC years ago. In college it was great fun tweaking and finding those certain CPU's or vid cards that you could tweak and get a huge bang for your buck. It may be laptop time finally with a fat warranty attached to it.

Keep in mind that a differnt motherboard is make the OS act up. You may not be able to get into windows with the new board untill you do a fresh install.

Generally the fat warenties are those you buy in adition to the laptop in a store and those are plane rippoffs. If you take the laptop back to the store to get fixed and they find they have to replace the unit the exstra warenty doesn't carry over to the replacement so your stuck buying the warenty again if you want that protection. All the while the store isn't out any money as it writes off the busted laptop as defective. They make most of there money this way.

I just found the bunk PSU's box, it was Smart Power 2.0 not True Power II, but regardless I think SmartPower PSU's had some of the same issues did they not?

Oh you know what. I too confused the TPII and the SPIIs. It was the SPIIs that had all the problems.
