New PSU and Case

Im looking to buy a new case and PSU. For the case, I'm looking for a good balance of size, cooling, and features (tool-less installation, etc.). As for the PSU, Im looking for enough power to power a 939 CPU with at least 1 6800GT. Im looking for 24-pin MB support and 6-pin PCIe support. Im also on a budget (aren't we all). Thanks.

I like the new Antec 3000b. It's the same as the 3700AMB except in black and it lacks a PSU. The AMB is a great case too and comes with a decent PSU for not much more. Only drawback to those two is if you have an unusually long add-on card as the depth of the case is shallower than some and a drive might prevent the card from fitting. Choose your favorite PSU. I also like the Evercase 42x2 series, the Compucase 6A19 series (the same as the two Antecs mentioned above except for the doorless bezel). The Silverstone Berserker or Temjin 02 or 04. Kingwin 424 series. etc. The Zippy 350 or 400 W units with the heavy +12 rails are excellent PSUs.

Lian Li PC65 or PC65B with a Fortron 530 watt psu.

the case is 1337 and the PSU is stable and proven.

You will thank me later.

SHould be a tick under 200 dollars too.

On the HardForums the people that bought the OCZ Modstream are getting thier machine killed from it.

Cooler Master Stacker is the only Cooler Master worth owning. the other coolermaster cases are mediocre at best.

The Lian-Li V2000 is the king currently.

Killed in what way?

Usually kills the motherboard making it unoperational and junk, if not the hard drives, ram and videocard along with it. I have mostly read posts about it killing motherboards though.

Great. I'm glad I didn't pop for one of those then.

if this were so, then why are modstreams still being sold? why do people buy it then? why is it that it has such high performance and quality ratings as seen in reviews? i do know of some powerstreams having blown up and frying entire systems, but taht was a while ago. no company will continue to sell or make products that are sure to cause problems. even 5% failure rate is extremely high. i'd also like to see where u get your sources from. one or 2 unfortunate accidents dont qualify the psu as junk or unreliable.

OCZ Powerstream or either of the Modstreams for the upper price bracket. For the lower price bracket Enermax Noisetaker and Whisper, most of the Tagan, and Fortron/Sparkles. Also although it is overkill PCP&C is arguably the best PSU out there being challenged only by OCZ (Zippy is at a level above for high end industrial systems).

LOL you either got very lucky or your parents are very computer literate.

Anywho, for the PSU you're gonna want something beefy, like at least 450w if you want to eventually be able to power two 6800GTs. Unless you're gonna stick to one for the rest of your life, the anything above 350 would do. I have an Enermax 460w PSU and it works great, the fan controller in the back lets me adjust it to the loudness I like, I got it for about 70 bucks. Antecs, OCZs, and PCP&C are more expensive but are nice. If you're on a budget, Enermax, Tagan, Fortron make great, stable PSUs.

I've heard similar stories about it, *IF* it's true (not saying it is...) there will surely be a recall. I find it ironic the one person I actually talked to who had the Modstream fry their system (the other 2 I just read messages) was a dude who was talking sh!t about me for buying a "sh1tty ass Ultra-X" Not saying the Modstream is crap, but Karma is a bitch 😉

Seasonic PSUs are the quietest fan-cooled PSUs you can buy.

The 400W Super Tornado has 24-pin mobo header and 6-pin PCIe power connector.

The higher-power S12 series (500W and up) as well.

Great PSUs, not cheap though.
