I won a PSP at an Altera/Mentor Graphics seminar today :D Lucky me

However, when I try to charge it, the battery doesn't actually charge. The orange light comes on, and the software indicates that it's charging, but the charge always remains at 0%.

After the light turns green, and the charging says it's finished, unplugging the AC adapter results in a low battery indicator, and then shutdown.

Now when plugging in the AC adapter, it charges for 1-5 minutes before claiming it's done charging again (but still at 0%).

I plan to call Sony tommorow, but just incase they want me to send the whole unit off to them on my dollar, has this happened to anybody else? Were you able to get the battery to charge again?

Just get Sony to drop-ship you a new battery...

Shouldn't be too hard.. then, go out and buy a 1gb memory stick and download the rom downgrader.. then download the UMD drive emulator and download some roms..

Of course.. only download roms for games you already own *cough*

Yeah, I hope that sony will ship just the battery. Their page says that you have to ship the whole thing back.

I also don't want to ship the whole thing back because if they upgrade the software to 2.01+, homebrew software won't work ;)

If you are that worried, just go buy another battery for it at Best Buy.

I assume it plays fine while it is plugged in?

Yeah, it works fine while plugged in. Problem is I can't do the downgrade to v1.5 without a charged battery.

I thought there might be some reset tricks or something that aren't listed in the manual. I'll be giving Sony a call today + buying a battery depending on what they say. I'd hope they would just ship another out. I just find it odd that busted batteries shipped out with a new unit.

I've found a few other cases online of people having the same problems, but they had problems with sony getting easy replacements.

Well, Sony isn't making it easy for me. They are requiring written proof from the guys who raffled it off, saying they did give it to me.

After that, I have to send it to them, then send the battery in. Once they recieve the battery, only then will they ship a replacement. Lame. If I had actually bought the system, I'd be without a working battery for 2 or more weeks probably.

I got a replacement battery from target, and it's working fine... But what a hassle to get the original replaced.
