New PS2 disc reading problems

I just bought a brand new PS2 today, and played Virtua Fighter 4 with no problems whatsoever. Then I put in my brand new copy of Final Fantasy X, and it started making a weird clicking noise when it was running, and I got a disc read error. I turned the system off, took the disc out and put it back in, and the clicking noise continued but then I got an error that said it wasn't a PS1 or 2 disc. Tried it one more time and the screen just stayed black, same clicking noise. Finally I went back to the store and got a replacement copy which seems to work great. I guess I'm just wondering if that clicking noise was my system getting damaged by something that was wrong with the disc, cuz I've never had that happen to any of my systems before . Anyone know for sure?

No Prism, that "clicking" noise was the "read" issue your PS2 was having w/ the bad disc :)

Bring it back to the store for an exchange w/ receipt. Shouldn't be a problem to return it for a new system. If you keep the defective system, this sort of stuff will keep happening and bad read errors are a pain to deal with.

More information on your system? Is it a slimline? What version is it? It should say SCPH-XXXX. The first slimline versions had issues with the laser being overdriven and burning up. (SCPH-700012).

I have a SCPH-75001, and a couple times now when I've started God of War it won't show the picture, but after restarting it, it seems to work fine. Is this common too?
