How does the BOINC credit or point system work?

My understanding:
The WU goes out to two clients. If the results match, both are given the lower credit.

So if I do the WU on a 500 mhz and the credit would be say 100 and the other WU is done on a 3.4 ghz and the credit would be say 20, then we both would get 20 credits? Is this to encourage fast computers or encourage just slow computers to do the project?

I'm newer, and slow and I don't get it.

Yip, that's the way it is. But you shouldn't get that much of a differnce of points. From what I've seen during my Astropulse BOINC beta testing the results differed only by a few points. But AFAIK BOINC does not set that system for scoring, it's the project who does. So if a project decides to give fixed points per WU --> you get your score without a comparison to other ppl crunching the same WU.
