* Mac Mini: Faster & cheaper
* Macbook: thinner, lighter, stronger
* iMac: Ultra thin 20 & 24"

I'm shocked. New products that are faster AND smaller? How can this be?? :shocked:

saw those leaks yesterday...im hoping the updates will come out this week.

my predictions:

mac mini - 2GB of ram standard, 256MB 9400m standard on low end model, revamped aluminum remote, still remain at c2d.

macbook - slimmer/lighter/stronger enclosure, built in battery, better screen (not sure about led backlit though), possible spec bumps, still remain at c2d.

imac - new mouse/keyboard, thinner enclosure, led backlit displays, spec bumps...though im not sure about quad-core at this point, considering how thin it must be, possible core i7?

My theory regarding the new MacBook design.

As it stands right now, the MacBook is $200 cheaper than the entry level MacBook Pro, that $200 gets you more battery life, an SD card slot, aluminum enclosure, LED backlit screen, better screen, backlit keyboard, and a faster processor. You are getting a lot for that $200.

So, they are either reducing their margins on the MBP or upping their margins on the MB.

IMO, there is very little they could do to the MacBook that wouldn't close the gap between it and the MBP except one... make it smaller. What if they put in a 11.6" screen or something, make it its own class again, a definitive difference between it and the MBP. Throw out the optical drive to make room for the larger battery and to thin it down some, smaller screen, same res, same size trackpad (minus the button) but make it the same as the MBPs where it is the button... I think that would work, and I know that I would be tempted, even if it kept the same price point.

If Apple combines this with a speed bump on the C2D (2.66 GHz ?), a decent amount of HDD space, and lowered the entry price on that to $499 or less, they'd have a winner on their hands.

IMHO, Apple has a perception problem with the Mini being marketed against all of those $399, low end Windows boxes you see out there. Yes, a die hard Apple fan might argue that you shouldn't make this comparison ("but you get so much more with a Mini!"). And they might even be right, under certain circumstances ;)

But like I said, it's a perception problem. And I think an updated, less expensive Mini would help alleviate that.
