How do the probooks generally stack up against Thinkpads? I'm looking at a T420 for $1120, and a similar ProBook 4430s costs $730, and a 6460b costs $899.

thinkpads come with a crapton of thinkvantage which you will hate yourself forever.

probook is just an elitebook made of plastic essentially. i'd get the elitebook. i've dropped the 17" on my foot/floor/etc and the things just don't break. break toes ;) lol.

at work we don't buy HP laptops anymore. crappola quality. i had a $1500 business laptop and it fell apart over 3 years and the warranty wasn't worth a damn since they refused to honor it. unless it's dirt cheap i'll never buy another HP laptop again

Yeah... if you get a Thinkpad, format it and reinstall the OS. They have so many utilities and trialware things installed on image that ships from the factory that it adds almost a minute to the start time. Lame.

That said, Thinkpads are still built like tanks. Mine is two years old, and it still looks practically new after daily use.

I've had a HP nc4000 Ultra Portable, which worked fine for 4 years then the hinges broke, but I replaced them myself. Then the hard drive died 6 month later, and then I decided it wasn't worth repair a nearly 5 years old computer.

Hi,

All you need is the program Decrapifier! You can get rid of what you don't want in a few minutes... What is the big deal if they put it on, You can take it off no problem.

Then run Ccleaner to cleanup any thing that might be left...

Just received it, and the build quality is definitely above regular HP's.

Just logged on via face recognition :D
