Well it was posted by numerous people that yesterday would be price drops on AMD cpu's and I even posted saying same thing based on others posts here about it but I dont see the prices dropping... So, just wait a few more days or it isnt happening? Usually the prices drop a day or two before the official price drop from my years of experience but nothing has changed at pricewatch. Any new news on this? I am not buying for another month or so but wanted to see what would happen.

My posts from the other AMD price cut thread:

AMD updated their price list today. I don't see much change on many processors and nothing on the Athlon 64.

Read this interview of Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD's microprocessor business unit.
"a new pricing structure that takes the emphasis off rock-bottom price tags."
"a pricing structure that changes its emphasis from lower prices for similar performance to better performance for the similar prices to Intel."
"'We, in the past, have priced for market share,' Seyer said. 'We're pricing to value now.'"

Here is a breakdown of the cuts: 0% on the Athlon 64.

OMG well that means a lot of people waited for NOTHING since they were waiting on Athlon 64 to drop. Well I hope the price on the Athlon 64 does drop in the next 2 months for me.

Well, I never count on such rumors. And when I responded to many threads asking about waiting, I suggested to "go for it now". I'm glad I didn't wait. I think I got the first Athlon64 3000+ on this site. At least I put up benches, and nobody commented, and I saw no other threads at the time. I'm still not sorry. And I got it for $215, and they are only down to $211.

I was hoping for a price drop too, then again I think I would have waited for new Nforce chipset and the New stepping of the Athlon 64s(cool & quiet minimum speed bumped to 1.0 Ghz at the same power output of the old stepping at 800 Mhz), and for that matter, maybe socket 939.

Prices dropped on the XP line. Why should they drop on the Athlon64 line? The Athlon64's are selling like hotcakes. Why reduce a price that doesn't need reducing? $211 really isn't that bad for a solid chip.

AMD 64 is a steal now... that said I would have gotten one by now if nvidia had their nforce 3 250 boards out.

I was waiting for the price drop too and for the Nforce 3 250 boards. I had horrible experiences with a VIA chipset back when the Thunderbird Athlon first came out (it was on an Asus board no less). Not anxious to try one again...

Aside from that, I guess the Athlon 64 is a better buy than a Northwood P4 for the stuff I use it for, but not THAT much better of a buy.

From a business viewpoint, there's no compelling reason for them to drop. If they are making their sales targets at the present price - why drop? Have you checked the price of gasoline lately? It all relates.
