New PowerMac G5 is liquid cooled.

Seriously though - that's pretty sweet. Are Macs overclockable, out of curiousity?

And while talking about rice lights - I was at Fry's on Saturday - almost every case except for the cheapo ones under $40 had rice lights and case fans all over. 😕

i hope that diagram showing the liquid flow isnt how its actually done. hooking up the processors in "series" for cooling seems pretty stupid.

I have no idea as to how overclockable Macs are.

And yeah, I know frys is going t3h rice way. Appearantly everyone wants ricer lites now :|

Lol, yeah, especially since the water leaving the first cpu is blue instead of red... is the first cpu it cools clocked lower or something? 🙂

well case air is shared too eh? probably did it for cost/simplicity. not uber overclocking goodness. maybe they'll do parrallel when they actually need it to run stable

The apples are overclockable. For a lot of them all it needed was a small hack and you could control the clocking from inside the OS.

The Bioses of Apples are a lot more open then the ones used in PC's so people who know what they are doing have gotten a bit creative with them.

The liquid cooling seems to be just to increase the efficiency of the heatsink. They use gigantic aluminum heatsinks and the water(or whatever) seems to be just to more evenly distribute the heat around.

The previous model had 9 intake fans, but I think with this mod they were able to get rid of a couple of them. Not sure. Even with dual cpus they still have a long way to go before they reach the same wattage as a single high ghz Althon XP or Pentium 4

Apple isn't the only one

But i'm skeptical on how good it is, took the panels off one this weekend, it does have two heat pipes running from the processor, into a shroud around the PS, then up to the top section, where a 120mm fan "cools" it, and then loops back down. Only noticed 2 fans in the case. Will say i kinda wish the case was aftermarket, the center cutout looks mighty sweet.

K, time to wander back on topic. G5 is better..😉

EDIT: cuz i can!

???

Which model? Only the dual 2.5s are liquid cooled and I thought they weren't shipping yet. (The dual 1.8 and 2.0s are air cooled.)

Well, there you have it. I am not a mac person, was only drooling today when they got delivered. We were looking at them and popped one open. I have no clue as to the specs pretty much because the person they were getting delivered to did not know either.

The dual 2.5s aren't shipping until the end of the month at the very earliest.

Unless you're sent some for testing.
