new power supply

so i swapped out my power supply today and now i can not run for more then a couple of minutes before a BSOD or freeze. i am pretty sure that my vid card (single 6600 GT on an asus a8n sli mb) isnt getting enough juice so i was thinking about using my old power supply for just the video card and the new power supply for everything else. is this possible without frying something?

eh... figure out how to get the 2nd power supply to give power when not connected to the motherboard, then it will work. maybe one of those "power supply tester" things since when one is plugged into the 20pin connector it turns the power supply on, which will give power to the 2 video cards. but doesnt the 6600 not even need an external power connector?

but for the problem, is the new power supply less Watts or lower quality than original? what happened that you replaced it?
