I currently have a 1 Gig TBird. It has the AYHJA stepping. I can run it just great @ 1.5 GHZ. The processor is mulitiplier unlocked. I can run up to a 162 MHZ FSB, and will POST up to a 168 MHZ FSB. The system is not very stable at anything above 1.5 GHZ. The Temperatures are good, so I am fairly confident that cooling is not a problem. At 1.5 GHZ, I run 4.91 on my 5 volt at idle and 4.86 at full load. For a time, I ran dual monitors, with a voodoo3 being the second video card. I took the v3 out and gained .15 volts on my 5V to give the readings listed above. I can run at 1500 at 1.625 core volts (setting in the BIOS), but hardware monitor shows 1.71 volts. It will post at this voltage all the way up to 1600. Anything much above that, and it doesn't matter how high I push the core voltage. The highest I have had POST is 1650. I notice quite a bit of power fluctuation when I am running at 1500+, and the system frequently locks up when I am heavily using the CD-ROM's in the computer. I would assume this is do to the extra power draw from the CD-ROM's. This leads me to believe that my power supply is to blame for not being able to hit higher speeds. Also, since the processor POSTs 1600 at around 1.7 volts, I would think that at 1.95 Volts, I would be able to do at least 1600 stable. However, this is not the case. Again, this seems to point to a poor power supply.
I am looking for your opinion on the matter. Do I need a new power supply to hit the higher speeds? Any recommendations that don't require soldering? I am currently running a Morex 300W power supply. My specs:
IWill KK266-R, 1 GIG TBird AYHJA
256 MEG of RAM (Siemens) 5-2-2 timings with 4-way interleave and cycle length of 2 @ 152 MHZ.
Creative Geforce 2 32 Meg DDR (core @ 225, memory @ 380)
3com 3c905b 10/100 NIC, Phoebe Micro TV Master TV tuner, Boca Research 56k ISA hardware modem
SBLive! value OEM, Maxtor 7200 RPM 40Gig, Iomega ZIPCD 12x10x32 (flashed to Plextor), Toshiba 12x DVD
