New Portable Hard Drive - Can't Find or Format

I recently got 2 new items from Newegg - an 80GB 2.5" drive and a small enclosure for it. I got it all put together tonight, which was easy, but can't do anything with it...

I've got both USB cables running to it to make sure it has enough power, and I know it spins and the green light comes on. Windows recognizes that there's a new drive attached and has it's little icon in the systray with the green arrow to allow me to stop / remove it. The CD that came with the enclosure has 95 / 98 drivers on it and says none are needed for XP.

So - it plugs in, turns on, and Windows knows there's a USB device attached. It even shows up in the Hardware Manager. But heck if I can figure out how to show it in "My Computer" as a drive letter or as anything that I can format and begin to use. I've got a valid XP with all updates, and all my other USB devices seem to work fine.

I know I'm missing something easy, please help!

Did you try:

Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Disk Manager to assign a letter to, partition and format the drive?

I think you missed something.
Control Panel>Aministrative Tools>Computer management>Disk Management>drive letter> partition & format>

Thanks for the fast replies.

It was not under the disk manager. I see the two hard drives installed in the main rig, and the DVD drive as well. But the portable did not show up. Strangely though,
it did show up under the Device Manager, and said it was working normally.

I had both US cables plugged into the front ports of the PC, to try and ensure it had enough power going to it, supposedly I only needed one. Well, I unplugged one of them and inserted it into the back of the machine, and that seems to have done the trick. Apparently the front ports don't supply enough power...

Either way, that seems to have cured it. Thanks again for the suggestions!
