New Popups - where are they coming from?

Hi,

I haven't had pop up advertisements for a long time - refreshingly. The IE browser seems to block the few that I could get. However, recently there have started popping up quite a bit, seemingly out of no where.

When this happened, there were only two things I was accessing: my Juno Webmail, and a MMORPG that I play. Anyone use Juno web mail and have you been getting popups?

I do use a paid Juno account for webmail etc, to avoid the advertisements. These messages seem to just pop up constantly now. I ran Adware on my home PC and I don't think that squashed them. I'd prefer to wipe evil adware off rather than to install a popup blocker if possible.

That's spyware. Try SpyBot as well as Adaware and make sure both are updated before launching. Hopefully that will get rid of the pop-ups but it seems like they're getting increasingly hard to get rid of save for reimaging the machine. Good luck.

I myself run the following:

Spybot SD

AdAaware SE Personal

Spyware Blaster

MS Anitspyware Beta 1

Popup Stopper Pro V1.80.1000

Google Toolbar with Popup Blocker on Firefox & IE6 browsers

This keeps most stuff under control

Might I suggest you visit the gurus at geekstogo.com?

They have helped me several times with spyware, its free and they do a great job.

Suggestion #1: make a new Computer Administrator-level account, then switch your regular account to a Limited account.

Also please fill us in on what version of Windows you have (2000, XP, etc), what Service Pack level it's at, and what antivirus software you use (be specific about the version as well as the brand).
