New Pope and celibacy

Ferocious

Diamond Member
Should the new Pope get rid of the celibacy requirement for clergy?

(I am assuming that he has that power, though I'm not certain.)

i am not catholic, you still want me to vote? isn't it up to God to tell the new pope what to do? or does the pope just get to do whatever he wants?

They need to change the "We'll look the other way and/or help you cover your tracks if you choose to diddle little boys" rule first.

I see no reform coming from the Catholic Church. They had their change a few years ago to soften their stance on birth control, and they stuck to their guns.

i'm surprised at your comment. they have been making ammends and realizing past errors.

While this is true, it's still way too soon for trust to be restored in the catholic priest, IMO.

predictable.
yeh, as soon as i saw you posted i figured

newflash: this happens in other religious sectors, not just Catholicism

Wasn't that one of the failings of the Catholic church? I remember that they re-instated it during the Council of Trent during the counter-reformation. I think it should stay just because... its tradition.

+1 points for switching to a new canned response.

Its true that other religions have their problems as well, but that doesn't mean the catholic church is going to get some sort of get out of jail free card on this one. They set themselves up as a moral beacon, and then try to cover up crimes against children, which are probably the most heinous out there. They deserve all the flack they get.

and i am not denying any past improprieties committed by them, but i do think they are cleaning up their act. also, i am sick of the sack riders who think this type of thing only happened with Catholic priests. there are pedophiles all over in society.
