New Pop up killer scam??

I have recently been getting these windows popping up on my computer. They have the style of a regular window in windows but say messenger service as the title. Sometimes they pop up with just lame advertisements, even when the browser is not open. I have tried spybot s&d, and adaware, neither get rid of them. Sometimes the same style of windows pop up advertising for something called messenger killer. This website will pretty much show you what I have been trying to explain in a cheesy flash demo http://www.messengerkiller.com. Anyways, the advertisement for messenger killer is the same design as the other advertisements. Are they purposely making pop-ups happen so you have to DL their program just to get rid of their own ads? If so, when you DL this program are you DLing spyware? Just seems pretty fishy to me. Anybody else had this problem? When i track down the command used for my computer to generate the add, it says csrss.exe, if that helps at all.

Thanks for any help i can get, Shackman

I have used the search, either i cant get the names right on or nothing is there, it doesnt bring up anything about messenger killer. I really want to get rid of this, could you make a dummy link to a thread that tells how to get rid of it, because updated spybot and adaware doesnt help. I am desperate, its interupting me very annoyingly =[[[[.

In the Run menu, type in gpedit.msc.
Then:
Computer configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Messenger
Both items there - set them to Enabled. Reboot. That should do it. If not, you might also need this:

In the registry, this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Look for something there about Windows Messenger and delete it.
Reboot.

Well, first option didnt work....will try the second option. I am not real smart on these things, how do i get into the registry to enter that second option of yours?

Just disable the Messenger Service. Right-click My Computer, Manage, find Services in there, find messenger service and set it to Disabled.

+1 added to the Messenger Service repeating thread count...
