And they are just now discovered? Crazyness

After spending a few hours on GeoGuessr, you'll reach the conclusion that Australia is solely composed of barren dirt roads, and lose all desire to go there, so it's no wonder so much of it remains unexplored.

Fun fact: Antarctica was supposed to be called Australia, but when Australia was named no one thought there was any continent further south.

I guess in that case "Australia" would have been called "Wastelandia" or something.

You know when you put together one of those impossibly complicated Ikea pieces and you always have some parts left when you're finished?

That's Australia.

The problem with Australia isn't the barren dirt roads, it's what lurks just off the barren dirt roads. Nobody discovered the giant pink slugs because everyone that stepped off a dirt road was instantly killed by a snake, spider, croc, box jellyfish or gimpie-gimpie plant.

That thing looks like a dog dick fell off and somehow became sentient.

Not saying I've studied them, but I don't consider slugs to be "sentient."

I do think some invertebrates may be thoughtful and self aware (cuttlefish / squid / octopus).

I think of sentient as "self aware." I guess they are "sentient" if you mean "it has senses." Then a dog's dick is sentient too. :)
